Things to know about exchange rates

Frequently asked questions

How does this currency converter get its exchange rates? It fetches mid-market reference rates from public exchange-rate data providers directly in your browser. If one provider is unavailable, it automatically switches to another, so the converter keeps working.
Are the exchange rates real-time?The rates refresh automatically while you keep the page open, but the free data providers publish updated reference rates about once a day (the European Central Bank publishes around 16:00 CET on working days). That is accurate enough for planning and comparison, but it is not a tick-by-tick trading feed.
Why is the rate at my bank or money changer different?Banks, cards, airports and money changers add a margin or fee on top of the mid-market rate. Use this converter as a reference to judge whether the rate you are offered is fair.
How many currencies are supported?More than 150 world currencies are supported, including the Indian rupee (INR), US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), UAE dirham (AED), Saudi riyal (SAR), Australian dollar (AUD), Canadian dollar (CAD) and Japanese yen (JPY).
How do I convert INR to USD, or USD to INR?Pick the two currencies in the From and To boxes, type the amount, and the result appears instantly. Press the swap button to reverse the direction, for example from USD to INR to INR to USD.
Can I use the converter if my internet drops?Yes. The last rates are saved in your browser, so the converter can still calculate using them. A "Saved rates" label shows when it is using stored rates instead of fresh ones.
Is this currency converter free? Do you store what I type?It is completely free with no signup. The amounts you type are processed in your browser and are never sent to our servers; only the public exchange-rate data is downloaded.
