Free FD calculator — fixed deposit maturity and interest
A fixed deposit (FD) calculator tells you how much your deposit will grow to by the end of the tenure. Enter the deposit amount, interest rate and tenure and you instantly get the maturity amount, the interest earned, the effective yearly return and the maturity date. It works for cumulative FDs, where interest is reinvested, and for payout FDs, where interest is paid out regularly.
FD maturity formula
For a cumulative FD: A = P × (1 + r/n)n×t. Here P is the deposit, r the annual rate (for example 7% = 0.07), n the number of compounding periods per year (4 for quarterly) and t the tenure in years. For simple interest at maturity the formula is A = P × (1 + r × t). For a payout FD, the interest paid each period is P × r ÷ number of payouts per year.
How to use the FD calculator
- Enter the deposit amount — type it or use the slider.
- Enter the interest rate your bank offers, and tick the senior citizen box if it applies.
- Set the tenure in years, months and days.
- Choose the FD type and compounding, then read your maturity amount and year-wise growth.
Example
A deposit of ₹1,00,000 at 7% a year for 5 years with quarterly compounding grows to about ₹1,41,478 — an interest of about ₹41,478 and an effective yearly return of about 7.19%.
Good to know
- Compare banks using the effective yearly return, not just the stated rate, because compounding changes the real return.
- Interest on fixed deposits is taxable and TDS may apply. This calculator shows interest before tax.
- Breaking an FD early usually reduces the interest. Check your bank's premature withdrawal terms.
- Results are estimates. Your bank's final figure can differ slightly.
Frequently asked questions
How is the FD maturity amount calculated? For a cumulative (reinvestment) FD the formula is A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P is the deposit, r is the annual interest rate as a decimal, n is how many times interest is compounded in a year and t is the tenure in years. Most Indian banks compound FD interest quarterly, so quarterly is selected by default.
What is the difference between cumulative and payout FD?In a cumulative FD the interest is added back to the deposit and you receive everything at maturity. In a payout FD the interest is paid out regularly (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly) and the original deposit is returned at maturity. This calculator shows both.
What is the effective annual yield? It is the real yearly return after compounding. For example, 7% compounded quarterly gives an effective yield of about 7.19%, which is higher than the stated 7%.
Does the senior citizen option change the result?Banks usually offer senior citizens an extra rate, commonly 0.50% a year. Tick the senior citizen box to add 0.50% to the rate you entered. Actual extra rates differ by bank, so you can also simply type the exact rate your bank offers.
Is TDS or tax included in the result? No. The result is the interest before tax. Interest on fixed deposits is taxable and TDS may be deducted by the bank above a yearly limit, which can change, so check the current income-tax rules or ask your bank.
Why does my bank show a slightly different maturity amount?Banks may round differently, use a day-count for part-year periods, follow their own compounding rules or apply a different rate for special tenures. This calculator is a close estimate for planning, not an official bank figure.
Is my data stored anywhere? No. Everything is calculated in your browser, and the amounts you enter are never sent to or saved on a server. The calculator is free with no signup.
